MISSION STATEMENT

Interfaith Council on Poverty reaches out to the needy in our community. Members from area churches and the community strive to be a sign of the unity and compassion of Christ. By working together we are able to share information, coordinate services, and make sure that we give food to the hungry, clothe the naked, and comfort the afflicted whenever possible.

GUIDING PRINCIPLE

For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me. Matthew 25:35-36 (NIV)

OVERVIEW

The Interfaith Council on Poverty is a cooperative effort of more than fifteen local Christian churches from different denominations dedicated to serving residents of Hernando and Nesbit in Desoto County, Mississippi. We operate a year-round food pantry and conduct special projects for children, seniors, and families throughout the year. We are a crisis intervention program and work in close association with the Hernando Catholic Social Services Office. We believe in giving a hand up, not a handout.
